Hi folks, time for a service, but how much and whats the best oil to use in my 1993 w124 e320 estate auto box???? I will also be changing the filter and i suppose that will make a difference in the quantities. Also best engine oil to use????? That will also be getting a new filter.

Many thanks in advance

Hello Nick, or anybody please,
Is this "Electric oil" the A000 989 92 03 oil recommended by MB on datasheet 236.6 or should the 722.5 early 5-speed box be treated as a 'lock-up' box for fluid specification?
My gearbox is good at the moment and I'd like to keep it that way!
thanks,

Ok, got there in the end: My dealer says use A0009899203 (datasheet 236.6) for the 722.5 5-speed autobox but Bolide's 'electric' oil is for the 722.6 'electric' gearbox (not 'lock-up' Doh!) which is given as A0019892303 or A0019892103 on datasheet 236.10, but should really be A001989210310...
I'll go with Bolide's advice.

Is Dextron III also OK on the 4 speed box??

The reason I ask is on a previous E300 estate of mine, the service sheets from the main dealer had Dextron III listed at the 36,000 intervals not Dextron II.

I have always used Dexron II or III on all my cars equipped with 722.3xx series transmissions. No bad effects noticed in 10+ years of ownership. Dexron III is an improvement on II and is backwards compatible.

Your 4 speed box will be a 722.3xx series gearbox, check your datacard for the gearbox number it will begin with 722.3

Dexron III is the appropriate fluid for a 722.4 transmission as well, AFAIK it's 722.6 onwards when the MB electric oil (which I read is Dexron III plus some additives) is required.
