Hi guys

Tyres have been scrubbing slightly since I bought this otherwise very tidy 93 300D.
As I have a track mat/pad from my trader days I obviously want to DIY....besides I rarely find the job is done properly elsewhere!

Stillsons are the only tool I can think of to hold the outer threaded sleeve in order not to strain the TRE?
I can't see any other way & that nut is one of the tighest I have ever known.

All experiences much appreciated

I've seen people use oxy-acetylene on these to free them up. The best approach I've seen is to split the track rod ends at each end of the track rod, put the link arm in a bench vice and remove the ends with it off the car

Hi,
I have just replaced my T.R.E.'s on my C230K and the nuts were extremely tight, all i did was to wire brush the thread, loads of Plus Gas and worked the nut backwards and forwards, with a pair of mole grips on the steering rod, against the suspension.

Thxs guys. I finally got around to the job armed with stillsons, a large plumbers adjustable; & a sliding tube clothes line from Argos for the technical bit that seems to defeat so many garages............... & it worked.
