Hello All, This is my 1st posting so apologies if you've seen this question before (I have looked in the archive without any luck).
I have a 1993 220E estate (facelift model) which is in pretty good condition but is being let down by a few scuff marks on the front & rear bumpers. I have the paint code for the main body but I'm not sure where to find the paint codes for the plastic panels. The front bumper is a darker metallic silver than the body and the paint is wearing through to the primer between the grille & number plate.
The lower plastic side panels are a solid grey and the rear bumper is a metallic grey/silver!
I have looked at other cars of the same age but can't decide whether the front and rear bumpers should be the same colour as each other? Some have body coloured trim all round and some are like mine.
Does anyone know where I can find out what the colours should be and where I can get the paint codes from?

Thanks

Just go to the dealer and give the parts department your VIN number. They'll tell you what the paint code & name is

From a dealer, touch-up sticks are about £7 and the spray paint for the lower panels is about £15. Worth having, not expensive and the colour will match!

Hi Nick,

Thanks for the info.
Just out of interest, do you know why some models had body coloured bumpers & side panels? Was it an option?

All post-facelift cars (93-on) I've seen have colour-coded lower panels + bumpers. As Nick said, just go and order at the dealer with your VIN, telling them it's for the plastic parts. The colour for mine (metallic green) had to be ordered from Germany, and I think was £15 for a can of the colour plus the satin laquer.

The 1/2-facelift cars had colour-coded bumper shells and lower plastic panels, orange indicators and were badged 320TE, etc

The facelift cars had colour-coded bumper shells, bumper centres, lower plastic panels with clear front indicators and a smaller radiator grille. They were badged as E Class - E320, etc. This was at the point when Mercedes rationalised their model nomenclature to C Class, E Class and S Class

The lower body panels are always matt in finish. They may be the same colour as the body, though normally they're different, but they have a matt finish. The aerosol paint Mercedes supply for them is for plastic, not bodywork

Thanks again Nick.
Nice web site. The car on the Home page is identical to mine (apart from no bumper scuffs). It appears from the replies that I need a code for the front bumper and one for the lower side panels/rear bumper? or repaint the lot in the body colour. By the way, my car is badged 220E (Sept '93).

I suppose there must be different colour codes for the car and the panels. Either way the dealer will know

If you've got a 93 220TE with panels it's a 1/2 facelift car. There are 93 E220s and 93 220TEs, sometimes on different plate letters... it gets very confusing!

Thanks for the comments re the site. I've just put up a new photo on the homepage
