Driving the W124, there was a bumpyness on a straight piece of new road that scared me a bit so I pulled up and checked all the wheel nuts...

Nothing askew there...

But the whole car feels a little vague from the rear, is there any thing I should check or is it because I've been driving a FWD Maestro.

No idea...

Any advice greatfully recieved...

Stu.

Right guys, I hope someone is online to help.

I got bored of the shaking today and seized the oppurtunity to, whilst setting my sat nav, ask an AA man to look at my car. He mentioned that it could be a mishaped tyre or something and offered to have a look seeing as I'm a member.

He jacked the car up and was amazed to find the inside of the NSR tyre was on it's threads with little rubber (About 3mm width, right on the corner of the tread and sidewall.

The otherone was going the same way, but not so bad.

I'm going to an indy tomorrow to get this checked out, is there anything else it could be?

Also, what would the cost of subframe bushes and control arms be?

Any suggestions welcome.

Stu.

Just been to MercAid... They've said £1350 to replace a pair of bushes.

I'm not happy and I think this is the end of the car/owner relationship.

If you can say which bushes EXACTLY they propose changing I will get back to you and possibly make your day with a better proposal.

I sometimes help out fellow merc owners of 124 cars with practical help.

Your VIN is also required.

I have no idea. Someone on here said Leading Bushes...

Either way, I need the car back in action with the tyres not running at an adverse camber angle.

Thing is Malcolm, I'm **** scared of breaking something!

Apparantly, according to the different garages I've been to:

You need a special tool to remove the bushes
You need to remove the entire rear suspension
You need a Four Post lift.

I don't even know if it's the bushes for sure yet!

Yes it helps

You need to remove the entire rear suspension

Wrong, only lower the exhaust a touch

You need a Four Post lift.

Wrong,but it helps
I don't even know if it's the bushes for sure yet!

I will read through again from the start

To test a car for direction stability, find a quiet road and get to about 30 mph in the center of the road, take your hands of the wheel and with the transmission locked into a lower gear, just blip the throttle, and off again and if the car changes coarse then something is wrong with the rear end

You don't need a special too but it makes the job MUCH easier. You dont need to remove the subframe either.

I have ordered my tool a couple of weeks ago and its due anytime. The tool is very expensive but well worth it.
