Hi need some help choosing the right tyres, just got my AMG rims back, 18 by 8J. My car is 1992 W124 E300 24v, I wanted to go for 225/35/18 but been told thats too low. I want also lower the car at a later date hence the low profiles. Been told to go for 225/40/18 all round, any ideas?

look forward to your replies

Regards

Vass

They will be the "right" size but I'd expect you to have problems with the front tyres rubbing on full lock and when going through dips

You can't expect to fit 18s on a W124 and not have some clearance problems

No mention of the off set here, that decides how for in or out the wheels will fit

18X8j? should you even go for 225? I have 18X8.5j and i have 225 40 18 on mine. having said that i will be going for 235 or 245 next time at the back to get that meaner look as at the moment the wheel look wider than tyre

They are some of the nicest looking wheels that I have seen on a 124:D:D:D
when i seen them for sale on ebay 5 off used with 4 new tyres i had a go & won them for £300 less than the price of two tyres :D

Thanks, I tried 245/35/18 on the back just to see the clearance. They did look mean. Do you think I can go lower on the front at 225/35/18 or stick to 225/40/18 all round

If you change to the 225-35 you will loose the sidewall height and go down to 78.75mm from the 90.0mm, and that would make the wheels almost 1" smaller in diameter.

Thanks, so I take it I should stick to 225/40/18 all round. Just to recap size of the rims 18x8j with an offset of 31

Yes you should be fine with that offset as the wheels are sitting further out, but not too far, is there is any rubbing when on full lock, if there is it should only be slight

Thanks, Yes old school, Borbet A's In very good condition too. On Ebay 18" ones with tyres went for £716. The only difference was they had polished lips. I think I can get good money for them.

Thanks for the link
