W124 Wing mirrors

I have a 1990 UK (RHD) W124.

I notice that the wing mirrors of W124s are different shapes - the passenger side mirror being more square. What is the reason for this?

The driver's side mirror of my car is particularly poor. Things look much closer in the mirror than they actually are. Is there any way of fixing this? Do newer W124s have better mirrors?

They are different, never did figure out why. My older car has a real blind spot on the drivers side, but it's not there on the newer one.

The mirror looks the same so maybes they changed the glass in some way. You couold always ask the dealer about part numbers.

I've seen pics of a W124, somewhere, where the ingenious owner managed to get the RHD drivers mirror the same size as the big in-preference-to-the-LHD-market mirror.

I think it may have been an E500 though, which are LHD anyway aren't they ?

I use a little spherical blobby mirror on drivers mirror to help out.

different mirrors

I understand the reason or the mirrors being diffirent sizes is for safety reasons. The driver has a long mirror to assist when overtaking and the taller passenger one so you check you've passed the vehicle you're overtaking before pulling back in.

I thought ....

What ever happened to putting the 'wing mirror' halfway along the wing? A mirror there would be lot better and you wouldn't have to do any unpleasant twisting to use it. This would explain why it is called a 'wing mirror'.

'Wing Mirrors' used to be an optional extra. I think it would look cool having a couple of mirrors on your wings.

Have you tried this one...

When you arrive at work and you know everbody is watching you through the windows, get out the car and then polish your star before your walk into the office.
