MY2000 E240 estate
Hello all.

My 5spd auto '95 E280 estate has been suffering from what I suspect is a shorting LT wiring loom for a while, leading to occasional stalling when coming to a stop and bouncing revs (same symptoms as with my previous E280 which was solved with a partial replacement of the loom).
On Sat I pulled up at a junction nr home (Lewes), and stalled. When I restarted it ran really rough - coughing, shaking, stalling again. Same in park / neutral. I limped off the road at 5mph and left it for 5 mins. On restarting everything was fine again and has been since. I'd have thought if the loom had finally died it would be a permanent death rather than temporary.? Not sure whether relevant but while I was waiting the 5 mins I topped up the oil which was pretty low (I hadn't checked for a while and yes I know that's asking for trouble), although no sign of oil on the road where I stalled or any under the car. The gear changes have been hesitant for a while but not too bad and I assumed normal for a 245k mile car.?
Any ideas what it was? Really don't fancy that happenning in fast lane of M23...
Cheers

Crankshaft position sensor? If the fault is temporary then, as you say, it's unlikely to be the loom
