I have had that problem with both of my 84 w126's. They have an idle control unit which drops the idle back once the operating temp is reached. If the idle is set too low at the idle screw when the motor is cold it will drop when it hits around 80 degrees. I have adjusted the idle to around 700rpm once the motor is warm. When cold it sits around 1000 until the idle controller drops it back when warm.
