W126 380 - Internal Light

Hi, W126 380SEC '82. When the doors open, drivers or passengers the internal light doesnt seem to come on. Comes on when turning the dial manually to on position!

If it uses door pin switches, then these will need cleaning, it could not be anything else

Hi T,

I have chceked both doors, by the hinges there are 2 no, black plastic dowels which push in.......... havent noticed any pins or are they called pins and im getting confused :S

Those will be the switches.

Might sound like a really stupid question but how do you clean the switches - do i need to take them out or just clean whats visible........ will WD40 or a de-greaser be ok? they are quite mucky from the outside

Yes they have to be removed. the contact is made on the inside, WD 40 will clean it but a switch cleaner is better

Ive given the both switches on both sides a good clean with switch/contact cleaner. doesnt seem to have done the job. any other suggestions? There is definetly supply to the cables as when i pulled the wires out the seat belt producer started to wrk etc.

are they turned off by the switch next to the sun roof switch?

Hi, success. I checked the switched with a mini volt meter. turns out they were shorted out. Got a pair from mercedes (£2.85p each) all sorted. Turns out that the 'lights on' buzzer is linked to the door switch and now thats started to work too. lovely

Ive the 380 SEC model, the light is seperate and located adjacent to the sunroof. there is no switch in the cluster

Bad news! Now the boot lid light doesn't work. ITs got a mind of its own, i got in the boot to try and find a contact switch or something god knows what im supposed to be looking 4 :S!
Comes on as and when it wants to not very helpful when you live in the country and its ****** pitch black at night and one cant even find a shopping bag!

Any help would be appreciated as always

A poor connection or broken wire going to the lamp,or faulty / Dirty switch contacts

Aerials not working either now! are these 2 linked in some way. Got the original blaupunkt Audioradio Bamberg QTS. Aerial just stopped erecting all of a sudden! How about Viagra for a remedy? lol

One day all will be fine, there could be an inline fuse, but you can check the connections on the base of the aerial.

Have you listened to see if its making a clicking sound and the rods are stuck
