W126 560 SEC Rear Window Demister

Hello all,

The rear window demister on my SEC has packed in. The switch still lights up and voltage is reaching the rear window but no demisting is happening. Any ideas on why its happening and what I can do (short of getting a new rear window)

Check the rear screen with a meter to see if there is any broken elements
Have you tested the earth wire????

The screen is nothing more than electrically resistant paint, painted in lines with live at one side and earth on the other. If the whole thing has packed up, but you have live, as Landover says, most likely the earth has failed. Have you checked for live 'in' the screen, not just at the connection, I imagine it's glued to the glass so if it's come away slighly it may not be making a proper contact with the screen circuit. You can check the current at different points across the screen elements to check for hairline breaks and if there is a break, you can buy repair paint from spares shops. But unless someone has been agressive with the cleaning, its unlikely that all the lines have gone at once.
