Hello to you all.

I am the proud new owner of my first Mercedes, as described above.
It's a fantastic car, and one with which I'm sure I will never part.
It's done 120,000 miles but feels pretty much like brand new to drive.
As always, I have some newbie queries with which I hope you might be able to help.

1) I have encountered a number of people, including a mechanic or two, who positively recommend that fully synthetic engine oil should not be used. The car has just been serviced and I settled for semi-synthetic oil, which seems to agree with the car very nicely. Does anyone have any comments? I would much rather use fully synthetic oil, provided it will not cause the engine to "rattle like a ********!"

2) There is a small amount of play in the steering at the straight ahead postion. Am I correct in understanding that there is an adjustment to the steering box that can remove a certain amount of play?

3) On pulling away from rest gently there is what I can only described as a fairly loud "bub, bub, bub, bub" sound from, I think, the area of the front passenger footwell. Is this normal? I thought it might be some form of exhaust noise. Has anyone else encountered this phenomenon? If you set off quite smartly it doesn't happen. :?:

4) When the car is warm and idling, the exhaust smells quite strongly of petrol. More so than I would say is normal, but I stand to be corrected. Any ideas? I have used my first full tank of fuel, and averaged 23 mpg. That was regular unleaded though, and I have now switched to premium unleaded, which I believe is recommended for these engines.

Finally, I am looking for a recommendation for a Mercedes specialist in or around the Eastbourne, East Sussex area. I have located one in Hastings, but wondered if there any others that are recommended. :D

I am looking forward to many happy hours browsing through the endless threads of thr forum.

Thanks in advance for your assistance.
