W126 Auto Box Oil Levels

I have just bought a 1984 280SE. With no manuals I am trying to learn the ins and outs of the car the hard way! I have checked the auto box dip stick and am not clear on how the level markers work. There are two lines on the bottom of the dipstick less than 10mm apart. Is that the min. line or min. and max.? The oil level when cold is above both approx. 20-30mm below the first ripple in the dipstick. Is this OK?

If not is it straightforward to drain off or top up. The autobox does seem to work fine and the fluid looks clean.

Again this may sound a stupid question but where is the power steering fluid resevoir?

This may sound daft but should the engine be running when checking the auto oil level? Sorry for answering your question with another one.

I don't know! I have no manual for this car. I am teaching myself the ins and outs of this car!

I checked mine cold.

Says in haynes that transmission must be at operating temperature (says drive about 10miles) selector in park, engine idle, level between two marks...no marks there then! Try again
