I am looking at buying a 1990 560 SEC - but for some strange reason it doesn't have any rear headrests (though it does have an electric blind!). I have tried a few scrappers, but no joy. Does anyone know where I might buy them in black leather?

Also, here's a poser that will sort out the real W126 experts: rear headrests from what other 126 models (SE & SEL), engines (380, 420, 500) and years (81 - 91) would fit a 1990 560 SEC?

Thanks for your help on this.

Tony

When you say that it does not have rear headrests, do you mean they are missing or the backrests do not actually have holes in the top for headrests ?

If the headrests are missing, then you will really need headrests from a post 89 W126 (any model will be fine) because in year 1989 the interior was updated with a new seat pattern. You could possibly use pre 89 rear headrests but the pattern might vary slightly.

If the backrests do not have the facility for the headrests then you will have to change the entire backrests - i.e. find a 1989 or later W126 (one which has the updated interior) which also has rear headrests. But you'll be hard-pushed to find a post 89 W126 in the scrappers with intact interior. They are absolute gold dust.

I seem to remember that the holes for headreasts were there, but nothing else. I am having the car examined next Wednesday by George Fraser so will check then.

If the holes are there then I will try a post '89 W126 as you suggest. If they aren't, then I'll just do without - if I buy the car!

As it is black leather, does a pattern matter?

Thanks for your help

You could even buy a pair of cloth covered headrests and have them redone in black leather, just a thought!.

Pattern may not matter that much, but the easiest thing to do is if you find a set of rear headrests that are not black, then find an SEC with black leather and pull the leather cover of the FRONT headrests and just fit them on - they will go straight on.

The headrest cover is EXACTLY the same for front and rear on a w126 - it is only the chrome legs on the headrests that are different front and rear on the SEC.

Thanks for everyone's help on this. I'll see what happens at the inspection next Tuesday before I investigate this any further.
