W126 Spring removal

Hi, is it possable to pull down the front springs on a 500 SEC to change the rubber cups that the spring sits into using a standard spring compressor or do you need the special tool to do the job?

It is best to have the proper spring compressor as normal ones dont do the job very good and can slip off....

I thought so, but when i phoned my main dealer they could'nt even get the right spring compressor for the job & said it would be at least a 4 hour job, maybe longer & would need the car all day!
I'm not a mechanic i'm a sprayer & i know if i had the right spring compressor i could do that job in an hour.

I have a spring crompressor of my own but the standered ones wont fit.
The one for my model goes down inside the centre of the spring from the engine bay.
I tried to buy one from the merc parts dept but they don't do it anymore.

yea, that's rubbish- I just had both front springs replaced at a Dorset dealership and the whole job took 2 hours.
