I am taking my 280SE on what could be her last big trip, a lads weekend to the West Highlands comprising a 1000 mile round road trip. The roads are awful and my lights are dire. I am going to put some brighter builbs in, has anyone done this and did the loom require new relays etc. Has anyone on experience on how the switches, bulb connectors cope with brighter bulbs?

Thanks

just done iot myself, and changed the driving/foglights to 130 watts, no probs, blew the 8 amp fuse but only because it was very corroded, changed that for a new one (as I need to with all my fuses) and fine as larry, but you might want to drop the angle of the lights one or two notches when travelling in town. I now have lights like all modern cars have... I.e. ones that actually let you see things.

I hasten to add primarily foir when I drive up to see the parents in Shropshire, as I kept having appaling dark patches on those long rural roads, so uypgraded as all the cars in our family tend to.

Done it with my old 240D years ago, no problems whatsoever. Saying that I dont think its great for the refective backing of the lamp unit itself. I think these old systems were designed for 55watt but over engineered to take double the wattage. Wouldnt try it on anything too modern.
