Hi all. have been offered as above, very solid rust free car all the extras, anything to look out for on these, other than usual knocks, clonks ,leaks etc. as its 18 years old! anything would help!

Make sure the hood works, open and close it several times.
Look for leaks on the power steering pump (messy), and steering box (very expensive to fix)
Look for transmission leaks, check smooth gearchanges
Check for condition of the exhaust, it's expensive!
If it has ADS (active dampers, height adjustable suspension), walk away if you don't like playing with hydraulics and electronics
Check for rust on the bottoms of the doors
Check operation of electric seats and memory function
Check cruise control operation if fitted
Try every electrical gadget, they are all expensive to fix!

Good luck with it, my 1991 500SL has taken a bit of fettling so far, and it isn't finished yet. If I couldn't do the work myself, there is no way I could afford to get a dealer to sort it out for me at their rates for parts and labour.
