same problem on my s500, changed caps/arms - no difference, new plugs - no difference, de-cat the exhuast - no change (even tho they were knackered). Left it to a specalist, he reckons the airflow meter. They aint cheap so am getting it double checked.

Well, 1 airflow meter later, ok for 10 miles...problem back! "Faults LH1 and LH2" apparently recorded before changing unit. Mean anything? Eratic start and initial tick-over. Settles down after short time. Gutless to say the least.

LH1 LH2 I think are air flow meter, clearing the codes wont change how the car runs as the air flow meters are self adapting.

I assume it was a genuine air flow meter from MB or Bosch?

Genuine MB. Seems to go better when cold! Driving it feels as tho' the engine is surging. Is it risky to drive the car as all the experienced people like you are miles from me in Worcester!

It seems very much like the problem I ma having which has been traced to a leaking air pipe on a pump that sits under the alternator, The pump injects air into the system and the result is with the leak that one Mass meter is trying to run lean and one rich. It is also difficult to tell it it is on all 12 and the gera change is jerky. Merc assure that this will fix it once the pipe is repaired (being done now). Sounds very much like a breathing problem.

Nice one! I have been told that there ia a supplementary air pump that 'fools' system by pumping air into monitoring gizmos. Is yours a 600 also?

Think last time I looked £500 for the loom. If you give me the chassis number I might be able to get it discounted for you.

Jib,
Thanks for the help thus far. The engine number is 12098022024764 and the chassis number is WDB1400572A180809.
Does the whole loom get replaced or is ist a fact that if one bit has perished another bit will follow?
Cheers, Lawton

£492.23 inc vat for the loom, thats the MB retail so I should be able to discount it a little but MB wont be making much on it. Only one in country at the moment.

Labour dont know without looking it up on WIS but rough guess about 3 hours +/- but I only charge £30 per hour.

W140 600 Sel Engine Loom

Happily(?) diagnosed as the insulation break-down syndrome that affects so many except merc won't acknowledge it (allegedly). Getting a new mercedes loom this week...any indi local-ish to worcester with experience that would take on the job of fitting it please?
