W140 Coupe Suspension replacement.

HI all.

Looking to replace my coils and shocks on my 1995 S500 coupe, Ive had some prices for the shocks from MB and then made the decision to leave it be.
Can anyone recommend alternative brands and who the best supplier of these parts would be.

Hi there

I had both the front springs on my CL420 replaced about 18 months ago in an Indie. I asked about after-market springs and he said that they had encountered problems with these in the past and there was not much difference in the price of after-market and genuine MB springs.

As I recall the springs were 65 UK pounds each and they took about 1/2 a day to fit. The total for the job in the Indie was about 300 pounds which seemed very reasonable to me. I thought I was going to have to sell my house to get the job done.

Not sure how much the shocks would have been as these didn't need changing on mine. I am also not sure if the CL420 parts are the same as the S500 but you should be able to get them for about the same price in UK.

In New Zealand where I now live I would have had to sell my house...:sad:
... Still I suppose the wetaher is better here than in the UK.

Sorry... I forgot to mention - The Indie I used was Kings Cars in Cardiff. Great garage who specialise in just Mercs and nothing else.
