I find that the Passenger door mirror has come adrift of the central spring clip. Can't figure how to get the spring clip to clip on to the post. Can see it clearly when mirror hard against car door but because frame of mirror has to slightly come forward to get around top and bottom of pin housing I can't get the clip to spring into place. Post being outside springclip means mirror drops out of position.

Anyone solved this minor problem before? Piece of credit card perhaps tucked into spring clip to open it beyond post? The spring clip is not unscrewable just has rivets.

Will persevere tomorrow with the piece of credit card when light better and hands not frozen solid.

Hi Stuart,, the is no info for the the internal parts of the mirror,, its all a bit vague , as there are glued housings and not glued.

Why not slip the cover off the other side and see how that is held

I'll post a picy tomorrow if I can't fix it with my flexible fiend (sic) The Safrane drives fine for miles and then will get temperamental and go into limp home mode, being third gear only. I think its an ECU electrical glitch and am hoping it won't put off a buyer as I'm only asking £130 on top of the value of the tax, for a one year MOT'd car. Hoping to shift it as. don't have the patience to investigate and my new toy W140 taking all my attention - rightly so!

Yes I think thats what I'll need do. Assume it screws on from within as you say. Tried to photo the problem and you may make out the post that the spring clip is supposed to wrap partially around. Problem is that outer case touches top and bottom of post frame and therefore naturally draws away from the post as I close in on it, thereby pushing the clip the wrong side of the post. Its going to be a teeser. Sorry about the quality of the photo - centre point with a bit of white grease is where clip should spring into place round the post.
There may have even been a top spring clip but if there was, its not there now.

Normally when taking off or changing gear at low speeds. and yes a sudden snap or bang, would also say generally when turning the steering at the same time..ie to turn into a driveway or similar
