HI I have W140 S500,, the problem is I have just fitted my third battery in 6 months, somehow my car keeps draining them, the fitter tells me that the alternator is charging and has no problems, but the weird thing is i can start the car fine and drive for 5 -10 miles, turn the engine off for a few minutes go and turn it over and it gives the impression that the battery is nearly dead, but then it sparks into life.. it is very worrying for me, any help appreciated ................. thanks in advance

It looks like something is draining the battery, big time. It will be true that it's charging properly. The trick is now to find out what is draining the battery.

Lead acid batteries aren't very good at standing up to being completly discharged...hence you will have to keep replacing them.

You need to get an ampmeter and see how much curent is being drawn when you have the car switched off.

[QUOTE= yes tom, I took it to an auto electric company this morning, they checked the system out and said it all pointed to a starter motor that I had reconditioned a three months ago, so I am in the process of getting that checked out now, apparently the starter motor has become dry and the bendix isnt working properly.......
thanks for you interest
