hi there,

im having problems locking/unlocking the car. i have W140 S280 R-reg with the 3 button FLIP key. I replaced the batteries this morning and im still not able to lock ot unlock the car. I can lock the doors from the inside switch but not able to use the key to use the central locking.

Took it to the merc garage this morning and they said that the key is transmiting a radio signal. soo its not the key then. he suggested synchronise the alarm system but the workshop was closed and they couldnt help me out.

Can any one help me synchronise the key.

p.s: i have lost the spare key, and also tried the following way to synchronise and both dont work.

1, point the transmitter at the boot lock and press the button
2, within 30 seconds put the key in the ignition lock and turn it to position 2

------------------------AND----------------------------------

1.point the remote at the lock at a distance of about 12 inches. PRESS the remote for 5 seconds.
2.unlock the door by turning the key in the lock
3. wait 10 seconds then remove the key.
4.repeat 1. for 5 seconds.
5.lock the door with the key
wait 10 seconds and remove the key.

Double check that the key IS transmitting a signal yourself. Check fuses, there are cenral locking ones in the boot - could be listed as IFZ, CLS or ATA.

According to the owners manual the proceedure is:-- Quote "For this purpose point the remote control at the vehicle and momentarily press Lock or unlock button. Turn the key to position 2 within 30 seconds. The lock system is then operational." end of Quote. Hope that this may be of some help.

Further to my earlier post, --- on my car the locking system only works fully when the reote control is aimed at the Interior Mirror, when aimed at the rear of the car (the Boot) the remote only unlocks the boot, perhaps worth trying with the remote aimed at the interior mirror or that area.
