Hi there,

New on here...having gone to pick up the car today. Its a 1995 S320 in blue.

Car had been lying for a while (never good) and required a jump start to get it going. Fired up & ran fine...so all good i thought.

Left her idling for few minutes (maybe 5 or 10) then she cut out.

Stuck the jump leads back on her and all i'm getting is a slick at the solenoid. Question is...is that the immobilizer kicking in?

Reason i ask, is that i've got flashing red and green lights on the rear view mirror.

Where do i go from here? Plan is to head back tomorrow in the cold light of day and check her over...but any thoughts meantime would be good.

Thankfully the car is local!

Cheers, Dave

Hello and welcome to the forum.

If the battery is that low then the immobilizer could be cutting in, you can re synce it by pressing any button in the key and inserting it within 30 sec and turning to 2, but very hard with a flat battery, you would do better to remove the battery and charge it first.

Wa the clicking coming from the starter motor

Thanks for the reply/welcome.

Yes, sounded like a click from the starter/solenoid. Not a series of clicks though which i would assume was lack of power.

When the seller first started it, it sounded like the starter continued to run....sticky ignition switch possibly.

I wasn't with the car during the period it was running and am wondering if the starter has continued to spin and burn itself out?

Plan to pull the starter out tomorrow and bench test it. Is is a fairly straightforward job from underneath?

Carl@w140.co.uk a good shout for a replacement if i need one?

Cheers,

Dave

Agree Carl is the man for W140 parts www.w140.co.uk, personally I would make sure the battery is 100% before I do anything.
The W140 is a funny bugger if the battery isnt right so make sure thats all ok before you spend time or money trying to fix a fault that inst there.
