I own a W140 (1993 500SEL V8) and I have noticed that when hot - say after a journey to London from the West Country down the M4 - it is really slow off the mark, and I mean really slow. It's as if fuel is limited to only 25% of normal flow. Also, it occassionally starts to jerk when flooring it at around 4000RPM. Can't make my mind up if it's the engine missing or the auto box hunting for a change.

I am booked in for a main service with MB dealer next week but would like to know where I might be able to save some of the cost especially in the light of the recent threads about plugs and leads making such a difference.

Thanks in advance

Hello,

I have been seeing the same problems in my 1997 w140. Did the mercedes dealership resolve the problem for you?
Thanks,
Neil

Could be your Mass Air Flow Sensor (usually rferred to as MAF or MAS). A failing MAS produces symptoms like those.
