the steering wheel will not return when turned and will have to be forced back to straight ahead after adjusting. Can this be reversed

There has never been much in the way of self centering in the steering of an ML163. One does generally have to assist the steering to fully return to centre. A lack of caster is basically to blame. I did get my caster adjusted to its maximum available and it did help a bit.
