Hi all, I'm sure this will be a very easy one for you!
The reversing lights/parking sensors, etc on my 2003 ML 270 have been playing up and have now stopped working altogether.
So before I start pulling things apart, where is the reversing light switch located on this model? is it near the gear selector or buried deep in the gearbox?

Thanks in advance.

It is in the selector box, but it might be part of the ecu

If that is the correct part it looks as if it is completely separate from the ECU if that is what you meant? It looks like it fits mechanically to the gear selection mechanism.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this? (before I start pulling it apart and break something!)

I have just been looking at the diagrams and a separate switch is shown known as S16/2 back up switch

Thanks for looking in to this for me. Sorry for the slow response, I've been away for the weekend. Do you have any idea of the location of this switch?

Nope no luck at all, so it must be in the box as there is no where else it can be

Oh dear, that's not good! Maybe it is a duff relay? Does anyone electrically minded know which is the relevant relay and where it is located?

Thanks for all the help. Are there such things as circuit diagrams available or is it the case that everything is ecu controlled now? If it is too much of a pain to fix I could always rig up a switch for the reversing lights and parking sensors (I am really missing those!).

There switch is shown, but I have no idea where it is other than the gear selector housing and the problem is worse with the electronic shift as all in one

I think I may have to take a trip down to a local auto electrician.

There is a reverse switch on the 6 speed manual box, assuming yours is auto then you dont have one.

Star diagnostics is the first thing to do.

Reversing lights and parking sensors on the same circuit, selector fault, pilot bush or electro plate.

Needs star but my guess pilot bush wet.

jib

I do not think so and nothing to do with the electro plate at all, its all done on the shift control
