W163 Seat heater.

Hi again, just had my first problem with my ML. Driving home the other night, a little cold, turned on the seat heater on the drivers side, a few minutes later an awful smell and my backside was getting dreadfully hot. Pulled over, jumped out and the drivers seat was billowing out smoke and the leather cover was burning through. Took the car to our MB dealer the next day," its a fair wear and tear item sir, £580 + VAT and we'll put it right". Has anyone heard of this before?

Just to add insult to injury, aircon condenser has sprung a leak, £209+ VAT plus fitting.
