Ml 2011 350
I have 2011 W164 ML 350 diesel , I’ve had it about 5 years , I’ve been a member here and never had the need to post before and as a diy type mechanic never felt I could offer much in the way of advice ,
The problem started a week ago the car cut out as if it had run out of fuel though gauge still showed 1/4 of a tank , so after recovery I removed the in tank pump to find the driver side tank almost empty so I obtained a second hand sender/ pump unit and fitted it I also got the left hand side pipe / sender unit but when I removed the unit from the tank the passenger side tank was about 2/3 full ?? So after putting it all back together I started the car up , the only issue after running through the air that was in the pipes was the high pressure pump was chattering so loud I thought the timing chain had gone , I turned the car off then tried again and the noise had gone car ticked over and revved fine , then on test drive if you accelerate hard as soon as it reaches 3000rpm the car goes into limp mode , with engine warning light that is code P087 fuel rail pressure low , stop turn car off and restart and car drives fine as long as you don’t boot it !!
As I can see there’s the pump pressure controller and the rail pressure controller along with a couple of sensors or should I be considering my new “ secondhand “ in tank pump
Any advice to point me in the right direction without spending a fortune would be most appreciated
