Hello guys,

I own a A-Clas W169, 2007 model for almost a year now, however for last 10 days I am getting the error : “Transmission visit workshop” on the dash.

After getting the message on the dash the car looses power, however after switching off the engine, it gets reset and works fine. This cycle keeps repeating.

Any suggestion for independant MB service guy in Birmingham (B20) is most welcome, where I can show the car without the fear of being ripped off for an old model.

Any advice would be great thanks. Also,

Hi,

I would suspect that it needs an oil change in the gearbox, atf.

I would look up MSL performance and see what they offer., suggest. Good guys who know Mercedes.
In Small Heath, B11 so not too far away..

Thanks for the replies, will get the fault codes checked. Not sure if MSL performance would be reasonably priced in small heath?

Only a suggestion and the only place around Brum that I know.
MSL performance, @acid are members on here, I don’t think it would be worth ripping anyone off.

i did my own gearbox fluid change cost me about £120 you will need 9 litres of atf and a gearbox sump pan gasket and filter 6 new bolts level plug and a sump plug copper washer quite easy to do and it made hell of a difference to my gear change as it is a auto with 98,000 miles they recommend changing at 80,000 but just bought the car and according to the history it hasnt been done glad i did it if you decide to do your own i took loads of pictures which would be very help full also you must drain torque convertor as this holds about 2 litres it should take ecxcatly 9 litres if you empty it all out oh and by the way there is no filler plug and dipstick it all has to be done through the sump plug

OP I would get it over to MSL, they won’t rip you off and will always look after forum members, but when we had something similar with our 169 it ended up us rebuilding the box :(

Thanks all the lovely people for your valuable suggestions. Planning to take to MSL in the coming week.

As of now, switching off ignition in Neutral for less than a minute and then restarting seems to reset the error and can drive smooth till the error appears again.
