There isn’t a visible mechanical lock on the latest A Class. If your key stops working or your battery is flat you can still get into your car by getting the emergency key out of the fob and pressing it into the small hole under the rear of the handle (as indicated by the yellow arrow below)
This releases the chrome cover off of the rear of the handle and reveals a normal key hole for the emergency key.
The one I tried it on has a bit of a fault… when you pull the handle, you can just pull the whole mechanism out of the door… this reveals a V-shaped bit of plastic that you can press up or down to lock or unlock the car…
Slightly less than zero security…
It is going into the dealers tomorrow as there’s a fault on the pax airbag… they can fix this as well. I’m presuming there’s a missing clip that should hold the mechanical lock in place.
