W201 Excessive Fuel consumption

I have a 190E 2.0 which is using way more fuel than i think it should be.

At present im getting around 15-20 mpg over normal driving conditions even long runs. The car wont idle below 1200rpm when fully warm (2200 approx when cold). I have changed the ECU but has made no difference.

Is there something else which could be causing high fuel usuage and the high idle speed? Air filter is clean, could it be the air flow meter?

Any help would be great thanks

I read on another forum of the same symptoms being caused by a faulty fuel distributor and it costs a lot to replace. The bloke got the prognosis from a dealer after having the same symptoms. I would pay the lolly to a dealer or MB specialist to get the diagnostics checked out properly.

If your fuel consumption is that high there would be smoke out of the exhaust. what year is the car.

Its a 1991 H plate. There is no smoke as far as I can tell? Mostly town driving so this is probably exaggerating the problem....

I fully agree with Stevie. I have a 190E with the 2.6 engine and generally get around 25--28 mpg around town and 32+ on a long run at a constant 70mph, there is obviosly something amiss, get it checked at a Mercedes dealer or local specialist.
