Total newbie, so hi there.

In common with most car forum first posts, this is a question (possibly daft) Pretty simple - replacing the discs all round on my 1990 W201 and noticed I can get vented 2.3 spec items for a tenner more than standard. Will the 2.3 vented front discs fit the standard caliper/hub okay?

I have a policy of upgrading as I replace (thanks to my other car) so to me it makes sense.

See, said it was a simple question :D

Hello and welcome. The thing that you will have to check is the thickness of the disc, vented are normally wider, other than that no problem

I suppose the quick way to check is ask if the 2.3-16 came with different callipers? Don't know if anyone would have that info - although I'm not above grinding down pads if it's only a small clearance issue.

Oh, and thanks for the welcome too :)

A pleasure,, why not pop into any GSF or Euro car parts store and check the thickness

nice 201 2.5D 1993 & very nice 129 SL500 1994
You need a different caliper the vented disk is much thicker and the calliper is wider to accomodate this, you only need the vented brakes if you wish to go fast and slow down repeatedly time and time again, you will get bored with having to stop and refuel.

Spend the extra four tenners on new flexible hoses, and fit new bleed nipples while you are at it.

Thanks man... Standards it'll be then - not going to upgrade calipers for no real reason.

The slow down repeatedly comment reminds me that nobody on this forum knows me. ;) I know the Merc should be for cruising, but it still surprises me with the handling prowess sometimes - I'm occasionally guilty of 'making progress'....

Always in a safe manner, appropriate to road and weather conditions, of course.
