I took my 97 C280 sport to the MB dealer to have th A/C checked.
The A/C worked fine afterwards for approx 20 mins, however it now does not work at all. The aux fans at the front of the radiator are not running when I switch in the A/C and all I get is warm air through the vents.
Does it sound to you like the coolant has leaked out ?

Would be pleased to get any comments, or ideas.

Sounds like the condensor has rotted,It needs to have some flouresent dye put into the system then checked for leaks with an ultra violet lamp. They usually rot with damp leaves/debris in the corners.
A condensor change job is not a diy job and usually costs £400 ish.

I reccomend these guys.

W202 Air conditioning and further issues

Thanks, that's exactly what the problems was. They charged me £650 to replace the condenser, on top of the the £ 177 initially for the re-gas charge.

Since the condenser was changed I have a noisy water pump which has just started leaking.
159K miles, to be expected I guess.

What do you recon is the cost of a water pump replacement ?
Regards, Nigel

Television always posts on hear the importance of turning off the Ac 10 mins before turning off the car, this allows any water in the condensor to evaporate off and prevent the rotting that you have experienced...hindsight eh!
