Not as far as I know - and I used to have a sale brochure for these.

I owned one (1998 C43 saloon). They only ever came in Automatic. Around 1500 were sold in the UK in a mix of saloon and estate. There were also a few C55's that made it in this model too. Waggers

C55? never heard of them before the W203.. .

i take it the same applies to the C36 too.

as much as Merc do the best autos, i'm in my twenties! and after having one for a month or so a few years back i feel it would destroy my driving skill. and frustrate me.

plus the fact i'd rather replace clutches than entire units, with them supposedly being sealed for life.

I've seen a couple in my time. they were a special build direct from AMG. I did check with AMG a few years back now and they will still supply and fit the kit for around 20,000 euros to your own car.

The automatic gearbox is great...one you've used one in a car with this much power you'll never revert to manual. It's just effortless slow, fast, cruising...whatever speed. Don't believe the sealed for life b*ll...Get the oil changed it will save you £3.5K for a refurb box from MB Germany!

You're killer will be the insurance on this beast...I'm on the plus side of 40 now and funny thing is when I got a quote recently for the C63 it's cheaper to insure that the C43 was 4 years ago!

yeah it will be. the insurance on my C180 sport is £700 Comp and i'm 25 with 3 points and a minimum term ban.

i remember doing quotes for it and it seemed to not be that prohibitive...

anyways, its a bit pie in the sky, i was more so intrigued about it.

C230K is the replacement methinks. i want to stick to the 202s as i'm not sold on the build quality and styling of the 203s. and they are cheaper.

Only auto 'boxes on the C36 & C43, though the C43s do have a manumatic function that lets you choose gears from 1-4. I've never used it though to be honest, never needed to. I always used to hate autos too - only ever drove manuals, but Merc auto boxes are the business. After driving mine I'd never have any concerns about using one ever again as it's that good

As to the C55's in W202, they were very special. Started off with you buying a C43, then it went straight back to AMG where they fitted the 5.5L engine + associated other small tweaks (18 inch alloys etc). Cost a bomb (try around £80k all in!) but the result was spectacular  Rare as rocking horse poo though - not many people had the money I expect, and those that did probably didn't want something that looked bland enough to be mistaken for a C180 I guess.

I'd love a W202 C55 but I'm happy with my C43 - a later W203 C55 will come in time I guess, just love the way these cars mix so much practicality with fun/speed/amazing engines

Cheers,
Mark

my dad would wholeharteadly agree with the first paragraph.

its that very reason i like them... its a sleeper. looks like a c180 but when it sets off it has what only can be described as "brutal hooligan accelleration"

Epic Win.
