Hi,

New to the forum and looked through past threads to get help on the problem with the odometer and trip displays on my C Class estate.

The illuminated sections of the LCD numbers have missing segments. The problem is intermittent in that it is different sections that fail to light but the display is never correct. The problem started about a month ago and I am reluctant to take the advice of the Merc dealer to replace the whole instrument cluster at a cost of £500+.

Also, I have just sufferred the problem with my fuel gauge showing empty after a fill, but having seen other threads this seems an unrelated problem to the faulty odo.

The car is one of the last W202s built in Sep 2000 with a FSH and has only done 36000 miles, looks and runs like new. It is a Sport model so has the white dials.

Does anyone have any advice on what I can do to get the odo display problem fixed, are there any independent specialist that might nbe able to fix the display. Also, would it be worth me writing to Merc UK for a 'goodwill' payment as I would have expected an odo to last the life of the vehicle.

Thanks

Nick

Nick,
I've been through this on a W210 E class. 210's suffer from this a lot, W202s are more unusual. MB are useless - been there and got nowhere! I did find someone willing to take a look at mine after a year's searching but I changed the car in the end. I also trawled ebay for a year and never found an appropriate unit, though sods law, I just had a quick look and there's one on now! There is also a W202 unit, admittedly not a sport one, but you can switch the dials over quite easily - the tuning boys do it all the time. May be worth a go, its been on 5 days so far and no-one has bid. As I say, the 202 fault is rare so he will have more trouble shifting it whereas the 210 unit has several punters fighting over it.
