I will soon be in need of a new centre and back section for my 1998 C280 V6 model. I tried scanning the usual websites Eurocarparts, GSF etc for an idea of a price but my particular model does not appear. Telephone calls to various exhaust fitting centres produce either a not interested its not a typical model to you will have to bring it in for us to inspect due to the various fitting variations. Anyone have an ideas on typical costs. I just dislike walking into places without having some idea of cost as a benchmark to judge if I am going to be exploited.

Complete exhaust systems can average around £500+ on most cars with each section costing between £1-200 or so per bit, so I guess for two parts you should be looking at around £2-400 all fitted maybe? It's hard to say for sure as a lot depends on whether there's twin outlets, which manufacturer, etc etc too. A proper new AMG full system from front to back for example is around £3k from the stealerships so just think yourself lucky you only have the C280 ;)

Have you tried phoning your local Merc dealership? I'm sure they'd at least give you a quote and then you'd have a high watermark example to get under so to speak :)

Cheers,
Mark

If you PM me the chassis number, I will get you the price.

Go with the original MB exhaust.....they are very good and last ages.

Either that or try Longlife Exhausts - they will build a stainless steel system for it and the prices are very reasonable.

I would go for one of these two options rather than going and fitting some crappy Kwickfit system.

OK....looks like your centre and back box for the 112.920 engine is one piece - part number A202 490 3521.

Cost £271.78 inc 10% discount - normally 301.98. Note this is not the fitted price. If you took it to Longlife they would charge you about £90 to fit it, but really you can get this fitted by any half decent mechanic for less as long as he has a hydraulic lift.

Got the price from here which is the MB online service:

My experience has been that the original exhausts seem to last ages.
Mine is a '97 C280 Sport V6 at 180K miles. Had the car from new, still running with the original exhaust... 10.5 years. Probably tempting providence by mentioning this though!
