Hi,

Thankyou for the help so far!

I have a c class 1999

Problems

Key does not open central locking
When in ignition - nothing happens.. ie steering lock does not even release..

I have tried the key with a digital camera... seems to be sending a signal
(I dont have a spare key)
I have even taken the key to an electrician who claims he has re-soldered
every chip on the board...

I have today replaced the main battery... lights etc come on..

However,

Hazard lights do not come on.... neither does it indicate..

The other day when i had the car on jump leads, the steering lock released but the key didnt turn any further.

The car seems to be dead...Please help.... Am sure some1 will no the prob...

What I have found that fits your car is this

Power window/central locking/windshield wiper/ turn signal/indicator malfunctions.

Penitration of water in passenger compartment CAN bus door control unit.

These are located in both rear doors, Has the car been out standing in all of the recent rain ???

I think the first thing is to remove the rear door panels and unplug them and see what happens, the modified door controllers have 200 on the label and the older ones 100

If there is any water in either one then this could be the fault

I have a similar problem with my 1995 C180, it was stood for 3 days in the rain, it started ok, I drove it a mile to a petrol station, everything was fine, after filling up on leaving the indicators did not work, I checked the hazards, not working, heateed rear screen and the headrests switches didnt work. The next morning the indicators and the rest were working ok BUT the car will not start, it turns over but will not start.
At first we checked the fuel pump, no problem there, fuel is getting through. We changed the ECU, still no joy, changed two relays, (not sure which) connecting the car to a computer the diagnosis is 'ECU not transponding with drivers door immobiliser' We synchronised the the IR key fobs, it turns over but will not start, could the problem be water in the doors? The car has been off the road now for 3 weeks and I would appreciate any advice.
