W202 key fob problems

My key fob to the w202 does not work. It doesn't lock or open however I can still drive. If I went to a Mercedes Benz showroom would they be able to get me a new key for a 1998 model and if not how can I get it to work, the batterys are new.

Dealer would be able to assist or car locksmith for a car that age....

It's likely your existing fob can be repaired. Most problems with them come down to dust / dirt / moisture getting in over the years and / or bad solder joints. The electronic components themselves tend to be fine.

Cleaning them out is pretty straightforward. Get a can of contact cleaner, pull the ting apart, blow off any loose dust, and spray everything liberally with the cleaner.

Checking solder joints is a little more technical but, if you have basic soldering skills (or know someone who does) not difficult. If there are no obvious dry or cracked joints just resolder everything.

You have nothing to lose if it's not working anyway!

Much will depend on the key type.
If it's a flip out blade key you're out of luck. They're no longer available.

If you're in the UK Replacement Mercedes Keys in Birmingham is a good place to go. Sorted out my R230 when a mobile locksmith messed it up.
