I've recently purchased a 1996 C180 Elegance auto. All is well except for an occaional brief lost of power.

This happens more often than not when i'm standing in traffic but it did today happen for the first time under normal driving.

The first tell tail sign when i'am in standing traffic is that the engine begins to idle very low and unsteady. I normally select park if i'm standing for any lengh of time. When I come to select drive again no power is avalaible. It seems that either the engine will not responed or the gear box is stuck in top. It does appear however to respond to kickdown and takes off. Once the engine has found it's rev's again all is well until the next time!

Much the same has now happened under normal driving. Whist feathering the gas pedal lightly to maintain speed the power will suddenly fall away until kickdown is pressed. The engine then comes to life and all again is well.

I did wonder if the MAF could be dirty or faulty but it does not appear to be located where i've been told it should be, which is just after the air filter box.

The car is registered Jan 1996 so it's bound to be an 95 production model.

Any ideas folks?

Cheers
