W202 Noisy power boot system

When ever I unlock the car using the automatic key fob I get a 7-8 second howling noise from the rear of the car which I am told is the system that operates the automatoc boot release powering up. No problem in locking the car all nice and quiet just 3 blinks of the indicators.

I have been given conflciting advice - there is a problem and it's all normal live with it.

Grateful for any advice and if there is a problem how it might be cured.

I would have said a leak or poor fitting pipe on the vacuum pump

I agree , 7-8 seconds is too long for the pump to run normally. this would suggest a leak. Have you also checked the fuel flap??
