Hi,
I have just sourced a pair of Genuine OEM xenon headlights for a w202, though i believe the the headlights are a direct exchange with my originals (as the original MB Units have the ballast/ignitor packs fitted on the headlights themselves), but as i want to do the conversion properly i need to know how the headlight auto self levelling system operates on a w202, when fitted with xenons from the factory.
The existing halogen set up is only adjusted manually via a dial adjacent to the light switch, and i always believed the xenons recieved an input from a unit above the diff, and required the diff to be removed to fit it, but i cannot find this unit on the EPC i,m using chassis number from C43's (one with xenons, one without).
Can anyone shed any light on this? (forgive the pun) Any info greatly appreciated.

Hi Andy,
The 202 is the same as the 203 in that the xenons are levelled using sensors to the front and rear suspension. This is a genuine retro-fit option

So you will need the auto levelling loom and the two sensors and the headlamp range control unit (this later part is integral to the headlamps on the 203 but not on the 202)
The doc I'm reading also has the ballast seperate from the headlamps? (202 as of 1.6.97)

I have 2 papers on the retro fit, please PM me with your E mail address

If you need more papers just ask and I will think about sending them;-);-)

You have to remove a rear spring to fit the rear adjuster

Hi,
I have been looking on the official MB EPC with 2 C43 chassis numbers (one with xenons, one without), and it appears that the sensors i already have because its seems they utilise the existing ESP sensors, even the loom that has the plugs for the headlight level motors 1 at each light appear according to the EPC are already fitted to my car from the factory.
Lets hope this is the case fingers crossed.

This is what I have found. The sensors are the same as the ones I had fitted.

A neat solution to the levelling but Andy wants to do the proper conversion, well he did. Perhaps he will change his mind now! :D

Hi,
I do want to do the job properly but i may change it over till i get the auto levelling sorted.
I,ve got the headlamp wash/wipe system coming too.
He said he would remove all the wiring for me aswell as the axle sensors, but to be honest i,m expecting to have to buy some parts.
so am i right in thinking the headlight levelling is done via 1 sensor on the front and 1 on the rear?
Whitenemesis, did your car have ESP? as from the EPC it appears the levelling is fed from the ESP sensors on my car. I,m just wondering if the sensor(s) only had to be fitted with cars without ESP.
Though i,m probably reading the EPC wrong.

Yes my car has ESP...

And yes, one sensor each axle.

The sensors measure the degree of suspension travel, nothing to do with ESP which is to do with wheel rotational speed.

If you PM me your VIN I can be sure I have the correct info.
