Hi guys

New to MB ownership and this forum.

Just got a W202 C220 and decided to give it a service. Everything fine apart from changing the oil filter - can't get the bakelite cap off - scared to apply too much force with large water pump pliers in case I break it.

Is there a knack or just a big enough box spanner?

I would appreciate any advice.

Had already drained old oil before I realised so have nice clean oil with ancient old filter

Many thanks

Hi

Is yours the one that takes a 36mm socket? I have seen these very very tight and they come off without breaking. It is not bakelite. It is plastic and i would be very suprised if you break it.
Try and get a 36mm socket if you can.

Thanks for your reply - the cover is larger than 36mm - not measured it but probably twice that.

oil filter

Hi, Is the filter at the front or rear or rear of the block ? . 230K, I think this is the later type housing at the front of the block, and it doesn,t have the 36mm hex sticking out the top. Maybe one of those strap type wrenches would move it ?. BigJon, If it is the 36mm type you can have my socket as I no longer have the 202, But I live in Scotland, near Glasgow Airport.

The strap removers are cheap and simple and will undo anything, they only cost a couple of £££
