Hi Guys
Please can anyone help a newby with a very frustrating problem. I have a 1999 w202 C280 and have replaced the MAF and Lambda sensors. My problem is that on cold start the engine fires up every time, no prob. When the engine is hot and been standing for a while it battles to start. It does 2 things. It will start then immediately stall. When this happens I rev the engine to 2000 rpm for a while and it will then idle ok. Or, the starter turns the engine over for a second then stops (not sufficient to start the engine). The starter will sometimes turn the engine over normally and it will start. Both of these usually happen at the same time.
The service centre tried a few MAFs and with a couple the engine wouldn't even run. During all of this the only fault on the diagnostic console was 'voltage less than 9v' when the starter only turns the engine for a second! I have had the battery checked out and all ok.
I am convinced that the starter motor problem is related in some way to the MAF or a temperature sensor as the engine could be starting too lean and thus stalling????
This is driving me nuts. Can anybody please throw me some pearls of wisdom here!!!

When it does not start check the fuel pressure and see if you have any.

Also the starter and ring gear may require some lubrication as when it becomes dry it can stick and stop the engine from starting.
I very much doubt it is air mass or temp sensor related.

Check that all the main earth connections are tight and also not corroded.

It sounds like there is a voltage drop because of high resistance in the circuit.

Starter and ring gear needs lubricating.

While the starter is out lube the ring gear with high temp grease. ONLY use a small amount!
