W202 C180 W-Reg (2000) Saturday evening. Wife clipped another car's wing mirror with the passenger side wing mirror. Plastic housing (cover) is OK. Mirror Glass is OK but the motor (has wires running through it) is broken. She just got back from MB Watford who quoted her £171.40 for a replacement motor. Don't know if it's steep but I know prices for this age of car are normally reasonable from the dealer. Is there somewhere I can get this part used or salvage? I am not really ready to spend that much on the mirror if I do not have to.

Thanks

ps can't provide a picture presently as the car is at home with the MRS.

Thanks C55

But I went ahead and bought it from the dealer, apparently it wasn't just the motor (that's £48 ) but the frame needed changing also (hence (£171). I will have a crack at fitting it myself later today. If unsuccessful -will take it to a mecho to fix.

Have had my DIY confidence renewed by successfully replacing my pollen filter last week. Who knows, at this rate I'll be doing my own brakes this time next year!

benzo,
was your wife unable to judge the width of your vehicle?
what about the other persons mirror...........she didnt bother did she!!!

I don't know what she was thinking... it was a very wide road she travels along with that same car EVERY day!

Sorry to disappoint you. :) She actually stopped, parked, picked up his broken mirror (it was an N reg W202). Looked for the owner's house and knocked on his door to tell him. When the owner's daughter opened the door and she told her what happpened, she was gobsmacked -couldn't believe she actually came to look for them. She called her dad who thanked her for being honest. She asked him how much it would cost and he told her he just did the other last week! and it cost him £60 at a salvage yard. She then went to a cash machine withdrew the money and went back to give it to him.

Needless to say I was pretty proud of her. At least, when she talks to my kid about doing the right thing she will be leading by example.

Fitted the new frame in this afternoon. Quite simple, just like putting up a shelf. Only problem the plastic mirror cover does not fit firmly.

I have screwed on the frame containing the mirror and motor, but the cover is not firm, it slides on and off easily. The casing on the driver's slide is firm and I can't pull it off. Can't see any broken clips or anything.

What could I be missing....?

Give your wife a KISS from me, It's a shame others don't follow from her example,;)
