Hello to All,
I wonder if you could help with advice. I had a "parking accident" with Director's MB and broke his front numberplate and surround.
He did not say I am going to be sacked (which is good) so I offered to fix it and he was OK.
It seems that the numberplate is stuck there (with glue???) and I can see screws that hold the surround to the bumper, so the surround should come off easily.
Do you think it is a feasible task? I want to buy an original surround from the dealer and order a new numberplate to fit in it but if it is a self adhesive plate I could not find any websites that make them...
Could you please advise how it can be done and where is the best place to get the bits. I fear if I have to settle the MB garage bill I may have to sell my bike ;)
Thanks in advance!

Its a simple job,, the number plate will be held on with sticky pads and should just pull away,,easier when warm.
Once that is off you will see the 4 screws that hold the surround holder on. They come pre painted and not expensive.

Hi & Welcome,

If you go to the dealer they should give you the surround for free, you will need the V5 for the numberplate as they won't make one without it. You will then need to screw the new surround to the bumper and the new plate will then clip into it. It is a bit fiddly as the surround will be curved when on the bumper and the rim that holds the plate in place doesn't like to bend that much. If he hasn't got one get a new rear one for free as well. As the plate won't have screw holes it will look much better and not suffer from staining from water ingress into the holes.

I am thinking of the plastic painted piece that fits onto the bumper like a kind of standoff, if it had the sticky pads then they would not be needed in the number plate holders that are sometimes
free
