Hi all.
Wondering if anybody would be able to abswer a quick question based on thier previous experience of upgrading from an Audio10 cassette head unit to the Audio10 cd head unit.
I have a 2002 C220 cdi W203 with factory installed Audio10 cassette head unit and 6cd changer in the glove box.
Having come from an Audi A6 I find the sound system a little week in the Merc. I would like to stay with the Mercedes original style and have seen a few claims that the Audio10 cd head unit produces a much better sound than the standard cassette head. Is this true ? Has anybody done this ?
Any opinions greatly recieved.
Thanks
Paul

Audio 10

Hi Paul.

Ive got a 2002 270cdi with audio 10, single CD. I dont find the audio quality that great on CD or radio, so you may be dissappointed if you change. I asked about fitting a different CD/radio unit but it seems there are many "issues" about this. Some, but not all audio 10s use a fibre optic connection to talk to the rest of the car (D2B I think). I read about the rear window aerial also being used for the radio part of the central locking etc. so fitting a different radio would prevent the remote working. Ive decided to stay with the single CD audio 10 for now. Anyway, Im not putting one of those coloured lighthouse things in my nice leather 203!. If anyone has actually successfully changed this radio successfully, Im sure many of us would like to hear how its done!

Audio 10

Thanks Peter.
Like you I would rather live with the so-so sound quality than change to a non standard stereo. But this stereo can actually hurt my ears when I push the volume at all !
Have also been looking at a command system retrofit. would anybody know if this would improve the sound ?

Hi,
In the next few days i,m going to be changing from an Audio 10 Tape/Radio to a Audio 10 CD/Radio mine has a fibre optic driven CD player in the boot they appear to be a straight swap and i,ve been assured it is by the shop (who is selling it to me).
Quite chuffed as he is selling it to me for only £35 as it was put in to him for repair over 6 months ago and the guy has,nt picked it up so he is letting me have it at what it owes him bargain i think, and hes changing it for me too.
I,ll let you know if i see any noticable difference in sound and quality.
