Greetings all,

Please can anyone tell me the minimum operating thickness of both front and rear discs? (W203 C220 CDI coupe 2002). Interestingly still around 4 mm on the front pads - both pads and front discs replaced 4 years ago at 49000 miles (previous owner). Now 161000 miles. Rear discs and pads replaced 2 years ago - little wear apparent on both. I wonder what effect washing the wheels has on disc wear - a thin film of rust naturally appears on the shiny part of the wet disc until the car is driven again the next day - this is of course steel from the disc!

I've just bought front discs & if you look at the leading edge of the discs, there is a flat spot machined on the inside of each leading edge at one position on each disc (vented discs). I assume that is a wear indicator, when the disc wears down to this point it shows they should be replaced.

Hard to explain , but if you had a new disc in front of you it would make sense.

Many thanks folks - I'll get the micrometer on to it - 22.4mm min. Looked at the flat spot - difficult to tell with the rust on the leading edge, but will remove and double check
