Hi guys n gals, my question is straight forward....are there any special precautions i should take whilst changing the brake pads front or rear on my c220 cdi 51 plate115k miles?. The reason i ask is i recently had all sorts of problems with a Honda Civic after changing brake pads..(no ****** brakes being the main one) ie is it ok to push caliper pistons back in or is it better to open bleed screw and release the fluid to save the master cylinder from damage. Thanks in advance for your help.........Derek:shock:

Nothing special at all. you are better off clamping the pipes and undoing the nipple, the prevents any dirt going up stream into the expensive ABS pump.

Do make sure that the new pads move freely in their slots file off any paint if they are tight.

Do grease the rear of the pads or piston face with the correct grease.

Just adding that if you pump the pedal say 3 times for the front brakes and 6 times for the rear you will have changed the fluid. dont forget to keep the tank topped up

Also remove all the rust from the caliper where the stainless steel seating plates sit and smear a little grease in that area to stop the rust comming back. If the plates dont sit nicely because of the rust then the pads will be tight.
Also make sure that if you remove the cap on the brake res fluid doesnt over spill as it could damaged any painted areas!! When you move the pistons back the fluid level will rise so keep an eye on it !!!
