2004 k - intermitent fault/noise on my 2004 180k. Sounds like a disel for 2/3 secs, specially when cold - comes and goes. Stealership had a look, did not happen, but then wanted to keep car overnight and i said no - anyon know of this problem? possibly oil not travelling quickly enough?
Thanks

noise

Hi

sounds like your problem is noisey cam shaft adjuster/s if you have a111 engine only the one required if you have the new 271 engine you will need 2 doing. The dealership should know all about this problem, But you can't expect to take a warm car in for diag and say it only happens when it is cold, you will have to let them start the car from cold

yeah, play the game...they got to have overnight to at least give them a fighting chance to solve it.

thank you. how do i tell what engine type i have?

the fault/my perception of it has decreased. knowing my luck, the car won;'t make the noise. if it is the fault you mention, should i wait until it gets worse?

they had a look when it went in for the pulling and noise and did not hear anything on the engine, so they say.
thanks.

271 or 111

Hi

best way is to look at the data card in the back of the service book or at the reg document and check the engin number if it starts 271 you have a 271 engine and so on

Sounds like camshaft related problerms, you need to check that from cold. Let dealer have it for weekend....
