Good afternoon mb members hope you are all well...

I have a problem in that the lights of my c class start flashing (no alarm siren) for apparantly no reason when I lock the car and leave it sometimes...it does not happen all the time but in order to remedy the situation I have to unlock the car with the key and then the alarm sounds! And then I have to re-lock it...I do this all with the remote key.

I've tried my best to find the solution online but I can't seem to narrow it down... is it to do with the a 'rusty' siren? or is it that the battery is trying to tell me that it is low?!... or is it something completely different...? The car starts the first time... the doors all lock/open fine. I had to have MB change the front passenger door lock because of 'bouncing button/machine gun lock' issue about 6 months back but again that is sorted now... I'm puzzled...any help would be much appreciated.

I am sorry I can not offer you any tips but can I ask if you have had a problem like mine? I too have a W203, 2001. Recently the advisory page shows that my left and right brake lights are burnet while they are not. Eevery time I start the car and as soon as I press the brake pedal to shift the gear, these advisories come on. Maybe you can help.

Regards

Hello and welcome, if the lamp warning comes on after you have touched the brake pedal, this normally means a faulty brake light bulb, either gone or bad contact

Afternoon all,

Mother's car is suffering from the flashing indicators as above. Common wisdom is that the alarm unit under the NS wheelarch is stuffed. Question is what will happen if I just unplug it and leave it unplugged?

Thanks

Thanks, do you mean that the lights will still flash 2/3 times when locked/ unlocked, or that they will still flash for 30 secs+ as they do at the moment.

Thanks again

Its depens on where the fault is, if theres a fault somewhere on the car then disconnecting the siren wont stop the lights flashing, If the siren is faulty then disconnecting it can put a fault into the rear sam and cause more problems!

Thanks, so the best practice is to have the fault codes read first? The symptons are exactly as the OP.

Thanks.

Replaced Siren on Monday, all sorted now.

Car now 'chirps' when un/locked.
