Hi Guys. My W203 C200 Kompressor has an interesting little fault. If the car is left for more than 24 hours, when I start the engine it idles erraticlly for about 5-10 seconds. It is like it can not get fuel. If you start the engine with your foot slighlty pressed on the accelerator it seems to solve this. During the winter the ECU Light came on a few times when driving at about 40mph. The car had no driving faults but was diagnosed at MAF. I have cleaned the MAF and during the summer warmer weather I have had more lights on. The car has been like it since I bought it with 55k on. Now has 90k on.

I changed the Camshaft sensor so as to ensure no oil leak and cable looms seem clean and dry. But I still have the annoying idle problem on start? Any thoughts? Can I unplug the MAF with the car running? Or will this damage the MAF? Any assistance appreciated!

Regards

Mick

If the MAF is duff then it should stall the engine if unplug with the engine running. Only buy a geniune Bosch MAF and nothing else as the cheap £40 jobbies from euro or GSF and ebay are china made rubbish that will cost you another MAF later.
The MAF are self adapting so the car will know it has a good MAF and settle accordingly.
Cleaning the MAF on a petrol is pointless as they tend to keep quite clean anyway, check you air filter and see if theres any oil drips showing on the edges of the element.

So if I disconnect the MAF with the engine running, and it stalls then the MAF is faulty. But if the engine keeps running then it is ok? Is this correct?

If the MAF is totally dead the car will stall, if the maf is failing or faulty it will or should keep running.

Hi Jbcl 500

Is there any consequences to doing this? Des it cause damage to a working one? Also where is the best place to buy a good Bosch unit? What is the likely cost.

in this twisted logic if the car feels or sounds better then yes the MAF, diagnostics need to be run first just to be sure but I'd put £10 on it being the MAF.

search Bosch in google and find you local stockist, call em and give them the bosch part number fromt he side of the maf.
